Following high profile collaborations with Jonny Greenwood (Radiohead) and Aphex Twin, Polish composer Krzysztof Penderecki is moving up the rungs with his latest project - melding classical Polish music with Trip Hop royalty Beth Gibbons (Portishead).
Her first musical work in 11 years since the release of Portishead’s THIRD album, Symphony No. 3 - Symphony Of Sorrowful Songs is speechlessly stunning and utterly enrapturing - Gibbon's entrancing vocals are unmistakable but never with such emotional depth - especially against the glorious sonorous wave from the sublime Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra. Trust us when we say - this will change the way you view classical music.
This performance also celebrates Henryk Górecki’s (1933- 2010) - Polish composer of contemporary classical music - seminal work, which sold over a millions copies and found billboard success. For this piece, Gibbons learnt not only a new style of singing, from contralto to soprano, but also a new language (Polish) to sing in. This recording took place at The National Opera Gran Theatre in Warsaw
Conductor Krzysztof Penderecki has been hailed as Poland’s greatest living composer, and conductor. His music was introduced to a wider audience through its use in soundtracks of films such as The Shining and The Exorcist.
