"Ran" is Kurosawa’s epic adaptation of Shakespeare's "King Lear," set in feudal Japan. The story follows Hidetora Ichimonji, an aging warlord who decides to divide his kingdom among his three sons. This decision sets off a chain of betrayal, warfare, and tragedy. As Hidetora faces the consequences of his choice, he is driven into madness by the treachery of his sons and the consequences of his own past. “Ran” is renowned for its stunning visuals, intricate battle scenes, and its exploration of the themes of chaos, power, and human frailty.
